My Lumixa Journey: Laura

My Lumixa Journey: Laura

When a new product or treatment becomes available we always like to see if they live up to the hype and when a product came along claiming to reduce our skin age by 8 years on average it certainly pulled our attention. On the outside it looks like a very simple treatment of LED light therapy.  Can it really be as effective as they say? We decided to delve a little further to find out about the science behind the technology and most importantly to give it a go ourselves.

About Lumixa

Brought to us by the Italian Skin scientists, FB Dermatology. They certainly have the credentials when it comes to skin repair and regeneration and have been at the forefront of this field for many years. Lumixa is a ‘Fluorejuvenation treatment’ capable of stimulating biological processes and the skin’s regeneration mechanisms through “photobiomodulation”

While LED is a continuous type of light, FLE is a hyper pulsed light which facilitates superior cellular interaction. LED light uses the properties of one single colour (wavelength) at a time. FLE covers a very wide spectrum of wavelengths at the same time. Blue from the LED light and green, yellow and red from the FLE generated. FLE interacts with different receptors in the epidermis and dermis.

There are three types of Lumixa available and protocols are tailored to your individual skin requirements. In brief;

The collagen Booster treatment is designed to increase collagen production by up to 700% and is an ideal preventative treatment to slow down the ageing process through collagen banking.

The Age Control treatment stimulates cellular regeneration and claims to enhance firmness and significantly reduce wrinkles. It claims to decrease skin age by 8 years on average!

The other treatment in the range is Skin Normaliser which is designed to heal and repair the skin by targeting the signs and symptoms of ‘flammageing’ and reduces inflammation by up to 80% compared to LED alone.

Without boring you too much with the science, in simple terms it’s like a workout for your skin. The gel and LED light encourage your skin to repair, regenerate and energise. All of this within a completely safe, painless and non-invasive 30 minute treatment.

Lumixa Treatment Prep

Prior to undertaking the treatment we used the Observ machine to assess the condition of my skin. I have simplified my skincare routine over the past six months and now just use ‘The Perfect Cleanser’ and ‘5 a day moisturiser’ both morning and night with the addition of SPF50 during the day. My skin health has already improved but I’m keen to see if Lumixa can take it to the next level.

My Customised Protocol

For me personally I have some fine lines, some loss of density and elasticity so we decided on a combination of the collagen booster and Age Control treatments to be undertaken at 1-2 weekly intervals.

The treatment was extremely relaxing. Louise cleansed by skin with a gentle foam cleanser prior to undertaking the treatment. She took care to tuck my hair back and put Vaseline on my brows and lips prior to mixing up the gel. This was a thick clear gel mixed with a luminous orange solution (the Lumixa Fluorophore gel).

Admittedly it does look very bright! This was applied all over my face fairly thickly and goggles put on me before going under the LED cube light. The gel is very cold and reminded me of ultrasound gel. A blue light was used to activate the gel and I just lay there chilling for 15 minutes listening to music.

After me very nearly falling asleep it was time for Louise to gently scrape off the gel and cleanse my face. Some SPF was applied and all completed within 30 minutes.

My skin felt soft and plumped up afterwards which is often the case after a nice facial treatment. I wondered if this would be temporary but the next morning my skin looked and felt really smooth and hydrated. I’m really interested to see how my skin improves after each treatment but I am aware that I do need to wait for the optimum result in 12-18 weeks as per the average epidermal turnover time.

The following two treatments were exactly the same in terms of the treatments. I didn’t notice a massive improvement on my skin after the second treatment. I thought maybe the effect had plateaued. It just felt plumped up and smooth like it was after the initial treatment which is obviously great but I wondered at that point if a course would make much difference overall.

After the third treatment (the final Collagen Boost) I could really notice a change in the texture of my face. It was smoother and felt more hydrated.

The Age Control gel was a vibrant blue gel that is activated using the red LED light. Like before, it is a cold and thick gel and the process was exactly the same except this time I looked like a smurf! I had a couple of these treatments to complete the course of five.

Review

My skin feels great and seems to be retaining its moisture better than ever before. I can genuinely say that it has improved my overall skin condition in a relatively short time. The jury is out on whether I look 8 years younger but for a very simple and relaxing treatment with no downtime I’m delighted with the results!
