01 Apr My Nose and I: A Dysfunctional Love Story
“If only I could go back and tell my younger self to embrace those teenage years, to stop obsessing over photos and appearances. There were so many more important things to worry about.”
High school was tough, especially when it came to how I felt about my nose. It’s funny how social media can really amplify your insecurities, isn’t it? I remember those blurry pictures on my friend’s Blackberry, and suddenly, my nose was all I could see. Throw in teenage hormones, boys, and just general teenage chaos, and my “imperfections” became glaringly obvious to me.
Then came the age of Snapchat and Instagram filters, promising flawless skin and perfectly sculpted features. Suddenly, everyone looked like they’d been airbrushed, and my real face, with its “wonky” nose, felt even more pronounced. Candid photos were the worst; the slant and bump were all I could focus on. No matter how many times my family and friends reassured me they didn’t notice, it felt like my nose was the star of every picture. Forget side profile pictures – I couldn’t bear to see my nose from any angle! I even tried contouring, hoping to create the illusion of a straight nose. But of course, when my makeup came off, there it was again, the mirror became a constant reminder.
By my late teens, I was deep-diving into rhinoplasty research. It wasn’t as common then, but the idea of a “perfect” nose was incredibly appealing. The only catch? The price tag. So, I made a promise to myself: someday, I’d save up and make it happen. Fast forward ten years, and well, here we are…
Working at Renew Medical Aesthetics as their Social Media Manager has been a total eye-opener to the wonderful world of non-surgical enhancements. Kelly and Sharon have both educated me on the possibilities of using filler to enhance and correct certain facial features. And then it hit me: non-surgical rhinoplasty!

Fast forward a year, and I’m sitting in Kelly’s treatment room, having a consultation to see if this could actually work for me. I must admit, I was skeptical at first because in an ideal world, I would want my nose fully reconstructed and couldn’t see how adding filler would correct it and not make it look even bigger! Oh how i was wrong…
The day of my appointment arrived, and I found myself experiencing a mix of anticipation and apprehension. Lingering doubts, such as “what if there’s no noticeable change?” or “what if it actually makes my nose appear larger?”. However, after the application of numbing cream, it felt like a significant milestone. I have been waiting for this day for nearly 15 years.
Kelly proceeded, using a thin, hyaluronic acid based filler to address the irregularities of my nose. She smoothed out the bumps, corrected the asymmetry which subtly lifted my bridge. When Kelly handed me the mirror, I was genuinely shocked. While my overall facial appearance remained the same, the prominent bump had been reduced, resulting in a straighter nasal contour. It was incredible, I can’t describe how good it made me feel. My nose was a little sensitive for a few days, but nothing major. I do have to keep in mind, it’s not permanent, and I will have to keep on top of it once or twice a year. However, the procedure offers a fantastic option for achieving subtle enhancements with minimal downtime, and at a significantly lower cost compared to surgical rhinoplasty.
“There are so many options nowadays that don’t have to involve surgery. Non-surgical rhinoplasty has been a game-changer for me. If only I could go back and tell my younger self to embrace those teenage years, to stop obsessing over photos and appearances. There were so many more important things to worry about. Non-surgical rhinoplasty has given me the confidence I desperately lacked and I am so lucky I had Kelly to help me on my journey, I will be forever grateful!”
