Improving Acne Scars

Acne scar treatments that work.

Acne scars can really affect our confidence; the acne that caused so much grief and embarrassment has finally cleared up, but they’ve left uneven skin texture that no make-up can hide. Acne scars can take various guises, from what is known as “ice-pick “ scars (deep and narrow pitting) to broad depressions. The scarring is caused by trauma to the skin and requires treatment that is powerful enough to affect the skin’s structure.

At the core of everything we do at Renew starts with skin. Let’s take a look at some of the most effective aesthetics treatments for acne scarring.

Skin Rejuvenation Products

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), such as lactic acid, glycolic acid and mandelic acid and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) such as salicylic acid. These acids perform an exfoliating effect on the skin and can help reduce the appearance of acne scarring. At Renew we are able to advise on which products will best suit your skin, and enhance any other treatment plan you may be undertaking.

Retinoids speed up cell regeneration and reduce redness (which also helps them to be less visible). They also work to prevent any future acne and are fantastic for their anti-aging properties. As a Nurse Prescriber, Kelly is able to prescribe and provide prescription-strength retinol from the Renew clinic.

Dermal Fillers

Fillers can be used to plump up the acne scar, and create a more even skin texture. Techniques differ depending on the scar, but are usually used to treat boxcar and rolling scars.

Microneedling

This is a very popular and effective treatment to reduce the appearance of scars. Tiny needles are used to stimulate the body’s own natural collagen production. The tiny, controlled injuries that the needles create on the skin then work stimulate the skin’s natural self-repair response and works to produce collagen and elastin and the support of new skin cell growth and fibrolasts.

Chemical Peels

Medical grade chemical peels work to exfoliate the top layer of the skin, while stimulating the production of collagen. Our signature treatment The Perfect Peel is a medium-depth peel that penetrates deeper than most other peels, for smooth, glowing and fresh skin. Used in conjunction with other treatments, such as microneedling acne scarring is reduced dramatically.

Microdermabrasion (Red Carpet Facial)

An abrasive surface is used to refine skin tone and texture- a bit like sanding, but for the skin! At Renew, we offer microdermabrasion as part of the Red Carpet Facial treatment, where it’s teamed up with a superficial chemical peel and radiofrequency (RF).
